Have a fun turkey image to lighten the mood and preface the news.
- Erdogan wants to hold a parliamentary debate about reinstating the death penalty. That would be the end to all of Turkey’s EU ambitions.
- 2745 of the about 15 000 judges have been suspended. Additionally, almost 200 judges, public prosecutors and court officials have been arrested/are to be arrested.
Oh boy. *Insert The Hunt for Red October meme here*

Reminds me a lot of the 1933 situation in Germany and the Reichstags fire.

If only the US and Russia would squash their stupid feud and scare off Erdolf..

Except Russia and the US are still comparing dick sizes.

Just wait until Erdolf fucks with the Americans. He already stepped ok Putin’s toes.

We’ll just build some new Jeeps and kick his ass.

Sounds like a plan. Let the Kurds have a large piece of land after asses have been kicked.

Not to mention the 1500+ journalists and citizens imprisoned for speaking against him. Methinks the military had the right idea.

WW3? WW3.
But really, my guess is that it won’t be long before NATO kicks them out.

The real problem there is we need that country if we're to do anything in the Mideast.

Definitely. Turkey is the gateway to the Middle East and of course a major member of the Nato. But Erdolf is doing everything to turn a working democracy into an oppressive dictatorship with him as the lone leader. He already successfully got rid of most of the opposition in the country. Atarürk is rotating in his grave.

I’m by any means not a fan of conspiracy theories but this ‘coup’ seems very staged by Erdolf. How could he fire 1400 judges over night?

Their secretaries of state held a joint presser to declare unconditional support for erdogan before the coup even failed so I don’t see it. It was hard to watch because I’m sure Kerry has no more love for erdogan or lavrov than we do. So sad!

I’d say just wait. The ‘unconditional support’ stops if Erdolf keeps being a dick and starts messing with the American soldiers stationed there. Sooner or later he’ll get what he deserves. What really disturbs me are the supporters of him that seem to have forgotten about Atatürk.

Plus it seems very half assed for a coup. Especially from an organization so experienced at them:

I’ve just read an interview with a journalist in Turkey and he said that the coup was executed by the lower army. The higher ranks don’t/didn’t want to mess with Erdolf. I still believe that it was staged though.

Speaking about supporters, have you had any incidents in Germany? Yesterday night, we had a couple hundred demonstrators marching on a building linked to the Gülen movement.

Yeah they protested in some German cities and showed solidarity with Erdogan. He’s very popular with the majority of Turks living here.

I’m not sure as to whether it was a false flag, so I’ll go with your Reichstag fire interpretation: the judges had already earned his ire somehow, this was the most convenient reason for him to get rid of them.

If you’re going to consolidate power towards towards a dictatorship Saddam Hussein pretty much wrote the book on how to do that. See excerpt video from Discovery Channel.

The coup itself also seemed very badly coordinated. Idk if it’s true but one soldier allegedly didn’t know that they were participating in a coup.
